I hear many people say that pastors and church are all about money. They have big houses, drive fancy cars and still ask for money. Yet, you have to wonder why it is so hard for us "Americans to give but then look at the Jewish people and wonder why they are so blessed.
Here's what I say & if you don't agree- then to each their own. Giving tithes or money to the church is biblical and works both ways. You give, you receive. They receive, they bless.
Let me take you to the old testament. Nehemiah Chp.8:13-18, Chp 9 -10. Giving tithes and first fruit was a covenant made by the people to God. During Sukkot, The Feast of Tabernacles, the Israelis separated themselves from foreigners, repented and thanked God for all He had done. Each year they would enter into a covenant with God, which could've been a curse or blessing (much like today). They put it in writing and sealed it with the names of the princes, the Levites and priests. It was sealed by the people in authority. (They knew the blessings that would overtake them.)
They obligated themselves to give yearly, a third part of the shekel for the services of the house of God.
They also obligated themselves to give the first fruit of their ground and every tree and to bring to the Levites the TITHES from the ground. All this was done so the house of GOD would not be NEGLECTED. The priest were responsible for the people. They didn't work. They served the people and ministered unto God.
Yet, there was a time when the people no longer held their part of the covenant. The singers and Levites had no income and were forced to return to work. That was until Nehemiah restored order.
Now, let's go to the New Testament. There are many scriptures that talk about tithing but what is interesting, is that after Jesus started his ministry, he didn't work. After his disciples started following him, it doesn't mention that they worked for man again either. Rather, they worked serving the Lord. But how did they eat? How did they survive?
God supplied their needs. People gave unto them. Mark 6:7-13 Jesus begins to send them out instructing them to take nothing except a staff. Jesus instructed them to shake the dust of their feet for The ones WHO DIDN'T welcome them. Those people probably got cursed instead of blessed.
If you realize all that they do, Pastors don't have time to work. In order for them to give you "A WORD' from God, they must spend time with him. In order for servants of the Lord to be used as vessels to heal you, they need to spend time with Him. In order for them to deliver you, they need to spend time with Him. How can they spend time with God if they have to work?
Throughout the bible I have not found any scriptures that say the servants of the Lord have to be poor. All I see is how God says He will bless and take care of them. Now with the change of times, the living styles may be different but they didn't lack. How they manage their money, is their responsibility. God will hold them accountable to His standards. We just need to do our part and keep the house of God functioning.
Just do your part and let the blessings overflow you. The Jewish people understand this concept and if you look at Israel, you can see all the blessings that cover them as a people and a state.....JustFood4Thought
